Police arrest drug driver with child passenger after crash

At around 11am on Saturday, officers went to Junction 16 of the motorway after a Renault Espace hit the back of a DVLA government vehicle.

The person behind the wheel had already been disqualified from driving and was reported for this new offence, while the passenger – who had a valid licence and insurance – was reported for allowing someone without a licence to drive the car.

The vehicle has since been seized.

Later that day, at around 2pm, RPU officers stopped an Audi which had an expired MOT.

They found the driver smoking cannabis while a child sat in a passenger seat. Police carried out a drugs wipe and arrested the driver, then took him into custody while safeguarding the young passenger.

On Sunday, February 11, RPU supported Chippenham officers with an early morning drink driver who had been reported by a member of public. The vehicle’s MOT had also expired, so they issued the relevant paperwork and arrested the driver.
