Man arrested for dangerous driving and drug possession following car chase on motorway

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of controlled drugs following a car chase from the Sydenham By-Pass to north Belfast.

In a post on social media, police said officers from the Auto Crime Team arrested the man after he was spotted shortly before 11.30am this morning (Thursday) travelling on Sydenham By-Pass in a Volkswagen Jetta.

The man was signalled by police to pull over but instead made off from the officers along the M3 motorway.

A police spokesperson said: “The highly trained officers conducted a pursuit of the Jetta along the M2 motorway and onto the Shore Road where the vehicle was abandoned and driver quickly detained.

“A check of the vehicle revealed that it was displaying false plates and also had no insurance. A follow up search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of controlled drugs.

“The driver will now be interviewed in relation to his actions whilst the Jetta has been seized as uninsured and removed from the roads.”
