Man arrested and drugs recovered from toilet u-bend after morning warrants in Hyde

Class A drugs and other paraphernalia were recovered this morning as GMP’s Challenger team provided an early morning wake-up call to those suspected of criminality in the Tameside area.

Two simultaneous warrants on Shepley Street and Great Norbury Street, Hyde, were conducted in relation to intelligence gathered within the local community.

At the address on Shepley Street, a quantity of suspected cocaine and heroin was recovered – including packets that officers found stuffed down the u-bend of the property’s toilet.

One man, aged 43, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.

In addition to the suspected illicit substances, a quantity of cash, packing and pressing equipment, and other drug paraphernalia was discovered and seized.

Programme Challenger – now in its tenth year – is a multi-agency response to groups involved in serious crime across the city-region.

Detective Sergeant Lee Attenborough, from GMP’s Challenger team, said: “Challenger is committed to tackling organised crime across the entirety of Greater Manchester and every day we conduct work to investigate criminal behaviour, seize and recover illegal drugs, and make arrests when we can.

“This morning was a brilliant result and I hope it shows the people of Tameside – and the wider area – that we will always investigate reports when we get them, as we work to investigate reports of organised crime in our communities.

“I would urge anyone with any information with regards to organised crime to please get in touch with us. Your tips and assistance could greatly benefit all of the work that we do.”

You can report information by contacting 101, visiting gmp.police.uk, or by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
